Itinerary

Day Three - Tuesday July 3 - Catavina to Playa Santispac - 334 miles

7:00 am:   In early morning we got to prepare for a long day ride and some interesting places to stop by. Needless to say this, you will not feel the great distance because you will enjoy the beautiful nature, one of the most desolate stretches of anywhere along Highway 1 across the Sierra Vizcaino Desert.  I mean it is breathtaking scenic ride.

10:30 am:  We arrive at Guerrero Negro (Black Warrior), named after the American whaling ship that was wrecked at the lagoon and the world's leading producer of salt according to the firm.  We may have time for a tour at the Salt Plant instead of whale watching because they left for migration to Alaska in the springtime.  Do not forget to turn your time to the Mountain Time Zone

1:30 pm:  After fueling up our bike we head San Ignacio 89 miles across the barren and remote Vizcaino Desert.

3:15 pm:  We will be startled by the dense forest of date palm trees by the water at San Ignacio.  It is one of the most charming towns on the peninsula.  We will take a peek at the old mission and a brief rest at the plaza.

4:30 pm:  Get back on the bike and ride on to Santa Rosalia (45 miles) across the desert plateau to the water's edge through a string of three massive volcanic cones.

6:00 pm:  Each Baja's gulf coast town has its unique personality, but none to quite the degree of Santa Rosalia in both appearance and atmosphere.  Park your bike for dinner!

7:15 pm:  Hurry up before it gets dark and go straight to Playa Santispac just south of the KM 114 marker about 7.4 miles from Mulege.  When we get to Mulege, we need to fuel up our bike.  There is no gas station between here to Loreto.
